At school we have this thing called independent maths, it's when you have to get the worksheet that you were meant to be working on and do the work without being in the workshop. :)

How to change mixed fractions to improper fractions or the other way around.

Today we learnt how to change fractions from mixed to improper or the other way round. First I will start by changing a mixed fraction to an improper one. So start with an equation, for example 2 wholes and one fifth, we just do 2x5 which = 10 so you just add the number at the top of the fraction which, in this case one. So 10+1=11. As you know the bottom number always stays the same so our answer is eleven fifths! :)

Annie's problem

This is a problem I need you to answer on my discussion,
Here it is: Annie bought 5 wholes and one half of an apple

when she was walking a dog rushed past her and took 1 and a half wholes how many does Annie have now?

Steve and his tallness

Steve is 1 metre tall. If 20 Steves were stacked on one another, how tall is Steve?

Here is another question to answer:
Another Steve Problem:A building is 5 and a quarter Steves. How tall is the building?

Miss M This one is for you!!

MISS MCCAULEY THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!Picture this:
You are in the classroom teaching a Maths Workshop. From your height, picture that you dropped your whiteboard marker. Tell me by commenting exactly the amount of measurement it fell! :D

Math problem solving

For my maths problem solving I did these following questions:
Title:At Camp
Activity 1: Where to?
Q1. What are Albie's choices?

1.Lake Waihonu

2.Mount Albury
3.Marama Island

Q2. Which camp do you think they should go to? Why?
Lake Waihonu because it doesn't have too much land and too much water.

Activity 2: Pick the place
1.
Option 1
The first option for choosing the place is rolling a dice & seeing what number shows up.
The strengths? The first ones strength is that when you roll the dice you can't choose which one you want.
The weaknesses? The weakness is that what happens if you accidentally went passed it and made it spin again?
Option 2
The second ones option is getting a piece of paper & cutting it into thirds, you will have to colour each thirds in a different colour. Then you have to put a paperclip in the middle then spin it. It depends on the colour it lands on, the colour will make the decision for you.
The strengths? The second ones strength is when the paperclip goes in the middle of two colours we can wait and see where the wind blows it.
The weaknesses? The weakness is what if the wind is blowing too hard , when you have stopped at a colour the wind will blow it into another colour.
Option 3
The third ones option is baking cookies and putting the choices in the cookies. Whichever cookie you pick you eat into it and then get the choice out.
The strengths? Te third ones strength is you get to pick a yummy cookie and have a good camp choice.
The weaknesses? The weakness is what if the person that baked it baked it in different sizes and the baker can tell which one is which?
2.Design your own way to pick the camp by chance.
-Design a board game with the three optional camp grounds. On each square, take turns to write the different camp grounds for example:
Marama Island
Lake Waihonu
Mt. Albury
Start
And so on. So you roll the dice and lets say you got a 3 so using your finger \ counter take 3 steps. The choice you have landed on was Marama Island. So thats your vote.
